The Beauty Trends I'll Never Do
I love the world of beauty because it's so versatile and people can use it to create whatever they want. It seems like every other day there is a new makeup trend blowing up on Instagram or a beauty launch that has bloggers rushing out to their nearest Sephora. It all can be really fun, and I often look forward to what this community will come up with next. That being said, there are definitely some trends and techniques that I have just not been a fan of. Rebecca recently shared an anti-haul, and it got me to thinking about my own beauty habits. I found the whole idea super interesting, so I thought I would share some beauty-related things that I'll never end up doing.
I feel like I'm going to get a lot of flak for this one because it seems like everyone is doing it, but I just don't like the whole warm-toned eyes trend that's all the rage right now. There's just something about red eyes that reminds me of allergies or being sick. I'm much more of a cool-toned gal, and really love the look of champagnes, pinks, purples, and cool taupes.
I'm all for setting your face with a little bit of powder, but "baking" seems so over the top (not to mention a huge waste of makeup). I've watched a few makeup tutorials on youtube to try to get a better understanding of this technique. In the end, I never see much of a difference, and it just looks like a quick way to go through a very expensive container of loose powder. Am I missing something here? Someone explain.
When I first heard about faux freckles, I thought the beauty community had truly run out of ideas. Over time, I've warmed up to the idea slightly, but only if it's executed properly. I've seen some girls apply so many little dots that their faces almost looked dirty, and others have drawn on ones that were much too big and obvious. If that's the look they were going for, then more power to them. For me personally though, this is one trend I just don't think I'd be able to pull off.
This one has been popular for a few years now, ever since Kim Kardashian shared how she does her makeup. While I think Kim's makeup always looks flawless, the extreme contouring and layering of products is just way too much for my tastes. I lean more towards the idea of french beauty - that less is more. A little bit of bronzer to give a soft glow is fine, but anything more and I feel like it's too much.
This one just feels a little too "90s throwback" to me. That's probably because I did this kind of thing in grade school, haha. I'd feel a bit clownish trying to pull off so many colors all at once, plus my inner emo kid enjoys her super black liner and mascara too much.
I think glitter parts look absolutely stunning for costumes and editorial looks in magazines, but in real life that's just way too much hassle. Could you imagine trying to scrub that much glitter out of your hair??? That's precious time that could be spent rewatching Stranger Things for the fourth time.
Bold brows is another trend that I feel like everyone is a fan of except me. Some girls pull off perfectly arched and filled in brows like pros, but it's just not the look for me. I already have fuller brows, so if I go all in and try to fill them in fully, my face ends up looking like a pair of brows with lips. Instead, I like to keep my eyebrows pretty natural, and usually opt for just a bit of tinted gel brushed through for some shape and definition.
Are there any beauty trends you're not a fan of?
